Mitchell Institute Leadership Experience - MILE II Professional Development Day - Posted: 2.2.10
The fourth annual MILE II Personal and Professional Development Day is coming up Saturday, February 27th. This year's MILE theme (How to Get a Job in a Tough Economy) is guaranteed to be of interest to our current and past scholarship recipients. Break-out sessions will give Mitchell Scholars the opportunity to learn about jobs in specific career fields. We are thrilled to have Portland Press Herald columnist Bill Nemitz, and Joe Foley, Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer at Unum as featured speakers. As in the past, the 2010 event will graciously be hosted by Unum. We are deeply grateful to Unum and its leadership for the time and effort they provide on behalf of the Mitchell Scholars
Mitchell Scholar Profiles: Student leaders give back locally and globally - Posted: 2.2.10
Dustin Graham, a 2009 graduate of Presque Isle High School, is currently studying education at Northern Maine Community College (NMCC). Dusty recently worked with the development office at NMCC to organize Children's Books Donations during the annual holiday light parade. Additionally, Dusty has helped organize Constitution Day celebrations on his campus as well as Kinderfest (Oktoberfest) activities to benefit a local arts center. From bringing informative speakers to campus to helping the arts thrive, Dusty's student leadership has a positive impact on both his campus and his community.
Kyle Dempsey is a 2007 graduate of Maine School of Science and Math and is currently a pre-med student at Bowdoin College. Kyle exemplifies Mitchell Scholar efforts to give back to our global community. In addition to delivering $10,000 in medical supplies to Nicaragua, Kyle has started his own fundraising effort on behalf of the people of Haiti. Kyle notes in the attached letter that the earthquake in Haiti has affected twice as many people as live in Maine. Visit this website to donate to Haiti through Kyle efforts in conjunction with Partners in Health.

Career Opportunity Summer Awards Program - Posted: 09.11.09
COSA fellowships, sponsored by a variety of Maine businesses and organizations, including the Levine Family Foundation, the Elaine Gorbach Levine Charitable Foundation, and the Alpha Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, provide Mitchell Scholars with stipends that help them to take career-focused summer jobs that would otherwise constitute a financial hardship. In return, the Scholars commit to a community service project. These fellowships are available through a Scholar-initiated application process. This year, nineteen COSA Awards totaling $20,000 were provided to Mitchell Scholars who worked in a wide variety of settings, including town and state government, small and large Maine-based businesses, and several nonprofits! The Mitchell Institute is currently seeking funding to continue this program into the future. Contact Bonnie Titcomb Lewis at btitcomb@mitchellinstitute.org if you are interested in learning more.
