There are two ways for students to apply (we accept either application):
- Via Common App
- OR using the Mitchell Scholarship Application

We are now on Common App!
Why the shift? We know that the college application process can feel incredibly stressful and overwhelming. Partnering with Common App provides easy access for students to apply for Mitchell Scholarship without having to fill out yet another application. Common App allows students to see that they are eligible for the Mitchell Scholarship as they are filling out college applications, making the Mitchell Scholarship application both more visible and more readily available to Maine public high school students in every community across our state! Not only that, counselors and teachers will be able to see their students’ application status in real time to better assist them with the process.
A few key things to note…
- We will still have an application available outside of Common App to ensure that all Maine public high school students are able to access an application in the format that works best for them.
- We will still provide updates to counselors and teachers as needed about application status for students who apply outside of Common App.
- The application timeline will stay the same as it was last year:
December 1: The Mitchell Scholarship Application opens both in Common App and our native Slate application. Links are above and have been sent out to the primary Mitchell Institute contact person at each public high school in Maine.
March 1: Applications close. Current applicants will still be able to submit additional application materials as needed, but no additional new applications can be accepted after this date.
April 1: Final date for any application materials or information to be updated prior to final application review.
- We will have multiple webinars and Q&A sessions this fall for all counselors before applications open to make sure that everyone has the information that they need.
- We will add questions to the FAQs below to help keep things up to date.
